New product eases OfficeVision to Notes document migration
London, 1st December 1997
A new product, jointly developed by connectivity specialist
DGA and document conversion specialist Pembroke International, will be warmly welcomed by those looking to migrate from IBM OfficeVision to Lotus Notes, or those working in an environment where the two systems co-exist. By delivering transparent conversion of word processing documents between Notes and OfficeVision, the product enables users to exchange and edit documents which retain all formatting from their original environment.
DTS (Document Transform Server) will be of particular interest to users of Notes who wish to edit mainframe documents in their original form. A typical example might be, for example, an insurance company which has standard policy documents created within OfficeVision, but which needs them to be processed by personnel working with Notes.
Operating in environments which use the major Lotus Notes or OfficeVision email gateway links, including DGA's well-known
DGAteway, the IBM Mail LAN Gateway/2 (IMLG/2) and Softswitch solutions, DTS enables documents and attachments sent from the Host to arrive at the Lotus Notes addressee mailbox as true Lotus Notes documents and messages sent from Lotus Notes to the Host to arrive at the OfficeVision mailbox as DCA-RFT messages.
"DTS is designed, initially, to assist organisations in easing transition from legacy OfficeVision documents to Lotus Notes," said Steve Lapthorn, Marketing Manager of DGA. "It is a robust, high quality product, which enables documents to be made available to the entire organisation in a totally transparent manner. There are still many users of IBM OfficeVision systems in place whos speed of migration is hampered by having to process complex legacy document formats and, for users moving to Lotus Notes, this product removes one of the main obstacles.”
Frank Shell, Managing Director of Pembroke International added, "DTS provides document exchange with exceptionally high fidelity, allowing users to exchange or migrate documents with complete confidence. Not only does DTS maintain important functionality like tables, columns, page-breaks, indents, paragraph numbering and all character attributes, in both directions, it uniquely enables documents created in a graphical environment to be reformatted into a single typestyle for use in a 3270 without loss of presentation or content, and then round-tripped back to Notes, still intact, and workable.”
The product will be available from DGA or Pembroke in the UK and Europe, and from Authorised Distributor, ReSoft International in the US. Located in New Canaan CT, ReSoft provides value-added software tools to the larger users of electronic messaging systems to enable them to become more effective in the provision of the service to their users. These tools address the issues of downsizing from and co-existing between mainframe 'legacy' systems and the newer LAN/Client-Server systems. More information can be found at
